His Dark Materials

Work with Painting Practice on the BAFTA-winning series His Dark Materials (Seasons 1 and 2) focused on particle-driven previz and exploratory development for the spectres, shaping early motion behaviour and visual concepts for some of the show’s more abstract effects.The edit below features sequences directed by Erica McEwan, produced to establish

a cohesive on-screen visual language for objects, symbols, and even audio-reactive angelic voices. Painting Practice defined the broader UI framework, and the particle-based content and animation were built to slot cleanly into that structure, reinforcing the series’ blend of mythology and grounded visual logic.
