Acoustic Intelligence: Translating biological signals into spatial behaviour

This R&D project explores how acoustic structure can drive spatial systems.

Birdsong and vocal recordings are analysed for pitch trajectories and harmonic content using Tony and Spear (open source audio analysis softwares). A custom Python bridge streams structured data into Houdini, where it drives procedural geometry, motion logic and behaviour.

Rather than reacting to amplitude, the system interprets musical structure as behavioural input — frequency relationships, temporal density, and spectral evolution become spatial rules.

The result is not a visualisation, but a responsive spatial instrument.

This work informs our broader research into intelligent immersive environments for live performance and installation.
